Event Registration

I have a website that is used in running tournaments (not online, on location). Currently we were simply going to just have a very basic and boring paypal button/link for gamers who want to register for an event. I'd like to do something a lot cooler like integrating s2 member with buddypress, so that when someone registers for a tournament, they actually get a profile on the website. Then when another tournament comes up, they can just login to the website, and register for the new tournament.

Is this something that is possible with S2Member? I understand it supports ongoing memberships, but I don't need ongoing memberships. Some people may only play one tournament and then quit. Others may do this once every 1-3 months, separate events. What steps do I need to take first, I have both buddypress and S2member installed, but because what I need it for is not the traditional use of the plugins, I'm confused lol.
