even with "login lock" plugin a user can change their password to something easy like 'password ' through the "edit profile". I just want wordpress to generate another one for them if they lose it, but redirecting them to the lost password page

You could remove the custom passwords option and have WordPress generate the password for the user on account creation. WP Admin -> s2Member -> General Options -> Custom Registration Fields/Options -> Allow Custom Passwords during Registration

I hope that helps. :)

Is there a toggle checkbox I missed, or will I need to edit a plugin file?
