By automating the renewal of the membership, do you mean that after the term paid, PayPal will charge them again for the following term automatically?

That's supported and is called a subscription. When you create the PayPal button's shortcode with s2Member, look at the dropdown menu after the line that says "Then, I want to charge: $ 0.01 / ". Look at the options under the Subscriptions section that say "recurring charge, for ongoing access". WP Admin -> s2Member -> PayPal Buttons

This is also under Dashboard -> PayPal Options -> Automatic EOT Behavior
labeled as Fixed-Term Extensions ( auto-extend )?

do you have any idea how to automate the renewal of membership using free s2member plugin? How to set this up? Is this supported?
