Many thanks for the replies - I appreciate it.

To be honest, we aren't using PayPal as payment gateway but we have inherited Payment Sense. So the three membership packages are purchased via the Payment Sense gateway and an e-commerce plug-in.

However, I was hoping that s2Member in some way could offer a page retriction that could work on a 30-day password expiration setup so that after that time, their only option to see more protected stuff would be to sign up via the Membership route (i.e. Payment Sense payment).

However, I now fully understand (thanks to your replies) more about the plug-in and the password situation.

Looking forward to watching all the excellent videos this afternoon!

Thank you for the kudos! :)

Eduan is right in that it's not handled with passwords normally, only in the case of Specific Post/Page restrictions, which are independent of user accounts. This, though, would make it hard to do what you want.

It would be better to use levels or custom capabilities for access. With the PayPal button you can set a trial period (e.g. 1 month) and then start charging him recurringly. WP Admin -> s2Member -> PayPal Buttons

Is that what you want?

So it doesn't use passwords, only the password to enter your account, I would recommend giving them level 0 access free and then if they want to enter some pages they will have to pay for their next membership.

Here's a link to the official video tutorials:

Hope this helps ;) .

I am brand new to this excellent plug-in and was just wondering whether the following was possible?

I need a password protected section of the site for members which clearly this plug-in can offer.

However, I also need an initial password for free access to be active for 30 days only and then it’s discontinued - so the visitor/member is going to be permitted access for 30 days and after that it will be determined by membership type.

Is that possible?

Many thanks!
