Thanks for reporting the redirection after s2Member got deactivated. I'll let Jason know about it. It may related to the new .htaccess feature that was added to the download URLs.

And what was the URL to the protected page and what did it get changed into?

The new mod_rewrite rules don't do any redirections. They just rewrite the URL internally and serve the file. That being said, s2Member itself may force a redirection, but only if access is denied, or when/if files are being served through Amazon S3 and a redirection to the Bucket object is necessary.

Right, if s2Member deactivated, you should NOT be redirected in any way by s2Member, because it's code is not even loaded by WordPress. It sounds like your browser may have cached the redirection, is that possible? Try clearing your temp files/cache.

generated a paypal button using S2
tested the paypal button and it showed the correct product
did not do a test purchase to see if the redirect came back to the pdf download page

On the download page, I had inserted a link to the pdf book which was in the s2 member download folder.

S2 changed the pdf download link to another product in the folder which required an activation key to unlock it.

When the S2 Member plugin is deactived and I try a browser access to the pdf download page, I am redirected to the Membership options page.

I would think with S2 deactivated that S2 redirects would not work.
