Sorting through the options...

It seems that Custom Capabilities is the way to go here. The issue I have (along with others in the forum) is how to track the start date of obtaining a custom capability independent of a subscription.

Can probably merge this with the various dripping content threads viewtopic.php?p=2620#p2620

Oh, and I have pro if it matters. Not sure if there are more features in Pro that will support this.

Annual Subscription combined with limited time Page

I am developing a certification site where users join as a member and get 7 days to take the certification exam. The membership should last all year, but the chance to take the certification should only be available for 7 days.

If they would like, they can buy additional chances to take/pass the exam.

Any advice on how to code this would be appreciated.
