s2Member is currently undergoing development that will make this possible. We are focusing our efforts on the larger picture, with several improvements to the way s2Member functions at a fundamental level. Look for a new major release in early 2012. I can't give specific dates, but it will not be sooner than Feb 2012. Until then, I recommend s2Member's URI Restrictions.

Uri protection would be a pain to maintain so I'll just check back later to see if s2members adds in the capabilities.
How so please? s2Member supports word fragments. This allows you to protect what could potentially be thousands of URLs with just one line in your s2Member configuration.

No ETA, but I'll forward your request for this feature.

Another thing to keep in mind is that anyone replying to a topic can actually change the tags assigned to the topic in the reply form. As WP has no system of 'hidden' tags capability, this means whatever you choose as your 'key' tag to hide a topic can easily be changed by any user, thus opening up even more problems.

Then how do you handle a topic that is moved from one forum to another where each forum has a different level protection scheme?

I can think of dozens of problems with this setup.

Is there an e.t.a. for when s2members is going to work on individual forum bbPress support?

Regarding current restriction limitations, see the note towards the bottom.

I think you could use the URI restriction feature for the particular forums' URI, couldnt you?
WP Admin -> s2Member -> Restriction Options -> URI

Hoping to get some clarity on this...

From the changelog it does sound like s2members does support the 2x plugin.

Anyone know if it is capable of separating out permissions on a per forum basis yet?

ChangeLog wrote:
(s2Member/s2Member Pro) bbPress®. Dropped legacy support for bbPress® stand-alone version. s2Member still supports the WordPress® plugin version of bbPress® v2.0+. However, from this version forward, we will no longer support the legacy s2Member Bridge to the stand-alone version of bbPress®. If you've already installed the s2Member Bridge for the stand-alone version of bbPress®, using a previous release of s2Member, your s2Member Bridge plugin should continue to work. However, the s2Member bbPress® Bridge is no longer included with s2Member, and we will not support the stand-alone version of bbPress® from this point forward.

Is s2Members able to protect individual forums on a per 'level' basis for bbPress yet?

Saw the older post in the forums saying that post-type support was coming in November, but it did not reference whether or not that vs. is out now.

Also, protecting an entire post-type wouldn't help if I am trying to give access on a per forum basis per level.

i.e.
bronze level access 'intro' forum
silver level access 'medium' forum
gold level access 'advanced' forum

hope that makes sense
