Great question.

The role is assigned to the account after it's created, yes.

You can, with s2Member Pro and using Pro-Forms (PayPal or Authorize.Net), you can specify what URL to return the person to after success. This would allow you to have a custom return for each kind of purchase.

That said, with Pro-Forms you can have the account creation and payment integrated in one form.

http://s2member.com/prices/
WP Admin -> s2Member -> PayPal Pro-Forms
WP Admin -> s2Member -> PayPal Pro-Forms -> Custom Return URLs on Success

I hope that helps. :)

I want to be able to show a different copy/wording on the registration page depending on the role of a user.

For example, for a non logged in user, I want to show them a brief text about what our free trial entails. Likewise, for someone who just signed up and payed for our level 3 membership, I want to show them a different text when they get to the registration page.

I know how to do this using the conditionals, but my question is this: Are users assigned a role after they purchase through PayPal and are redirected to the register page to create their accounts. Or, does their role depend on them first creating an account?

If the role is not determined after PayPal transaction and I cannot use conditionals to supply different text, is there a way to create multiple registration pages in buddypress?

Thanks
