Well, you could use s2Member Pro's pro-forms in combination with the custom registration fields.

Custom registration fields have a setting to specify what membership level to show the field to. If you set it at 1, then the pro-form for Level 1 will include these fields, and as long as they're at Level 1 they'll see them in their profile page and be able to edit them. WP Admin -> s2Member -> General Options -> Custom Registration Fields -> field -> Applicable Membership Levels

If the person stops paying, s2Member gets notified by PayPal and s2Member's Auto-EOT Behavior kicks in, which may be a demotion to Level 0 (free). WP Admin -> s2Member -> PayPal Options -> Automatic EOT Behavior

Does that help?

If not....

I service a community of members who need to know when x, y and/or z happens. These are external events not generated by, known about or reported on the site. All pages of the site are open. Notification of events (via email and text) is a paid service. I want to use s2member as follows:

A user registers on the site. They will complete the UN/PW/email process then pay via PayPal. They will then return to their profile where they will have access to check boxes:
Tell me when x happens: Yes No

Tell me when y happens: Yes No

Tell me when z happens: Yes No

I am not using the site to generate the emails or text notifications. That is an external process. I only need to use s2member to verify that the user completed the PayPal process then grant access to the custom form.

Will s2member work for this scenario? If yes, will/can you point me in a general direction?

Alternatively and possibly better/easier, I could add custom profile questions via s2member and collect this info at the same time as UN/PW/email. If I do that, I need to grant the user access to these fields so that they can change their options periodically (if desired). No additional payment required for adding or deleting notification triggers (i.e. member was being notified of x and now wants to be notified of x and z). Can I do this simply by providing a login link and granting access to the profile? If I go this route, in what table is the data stored? wp-users?

Lastly, these are recurring payments and billing is handled monthly via the PayPal Standard Subscribe button. Will s2member update the payment status month-to-month?

Thanks. I hope I'm a paying customer soon. The product looks great; just need these questions answered before I buy and couldn't find a circumstance similar to mine addressed in the FAQs or support forum.
