I've seen lots of emails never arrive due to problems with the mail server delivering those notifications.

Regarding the users not receiving the activation emails, I suggest installing the EMail Log plugin to check exactly what emails WordPress/s2Member is sending out and also installing the WP Mail SMTP plugin and configuring it with the SMTP details for the "From" address you're using in WordPress/s2Member.

Then I created a test account to see what happened, and upon registration, I received an activation email, with a link inside that I had to click to activate the account. I clicked the link, the test account was activated, and I was able to log in and see the test user both in the BACK end (what admins only can see), and inside the FRONT end of the site (what users can see).

My member never received that email with the activation link, and I could see no way to generate a new one. I ended up having to delete her user account and create a new one for her "by hand" in order to get her access to the site.

Does this make sense?

What do you mean by "activate"? Once her account is registered, she should be able to login.
