The only way is through Advanced Conditionals, as documented under: s2Member -> API Scripting -> Advanced Conditionals. However, we are working on a new feature, that we're calling "Simple Conditionals" ( to be released soon ). Until then, Advanced Conditionals are the way to go.
bit of php using your advanced conditionals would work, but not as easy for the editors.
Yea, I agree that Exec-PHP has some side issues. We have a new alternative to Exec-PHP coming soon that will be an attempt to improve upon this plugin. You can look for this to be released at PriMoThemes.com. We're hoping that it will improve the usability of s2Member's API Scripting as well.

For best user experience and SEO, we generally don't want to block an entire post, but rather only that portion after a designated place in the post...selected by the editor. Ideally we would like this to be indicated using the "read more" tag. Alternatively, use of a short code such as [premium] protected content goes here [/premium] that references a bit of php using your advanced conditionals would work, but not as easy for the editors.
Wold like to use category protection in conjunction with the "read more" tag to handle editorial content protection and still have the ability to protect entire pages or files using other s2Member features.
I've reviewed other threads along this same vein and am not clear on the best approach to handle this.
Any guidance or thoughts would be much appreciated.
