I'm having the exact same issue. And I too am hosted on bluehost. I called bluehost twice and they have no clue. "it works on my system", is what they say. They are using linux. Only difference is I'm trying to let my free members download a 300k. exe installer. But having this same issue. It's so annoying. I just wonder how many were not able to download compared to the 2 that called me about it. ugggh

About the S3 integration, right now I can just say what's in the documentation, so it'd be better that you go read it directly. You can find it at WP Admin -> s2Member -> Download Options -> Amazon S3/CDN Storage Option :)

I'm actually a little annoyed with Bluehost. As my files are not very large and I don't have a huge number of users. It seems like they should be able to handle all this "out of the box. But, oh well.

By the way, if you have an s2Member Pro Unlimited Sites license, you can try the latest Release Candidate of s2Member, it adds Amazon S3 support, which may help you with this problem.
