Page restrictions not meshing with PayPal buttons

Postby drawingsecretsrevealed » June 15th, 2011, 12:56 pm

I generated a PayPal button for Level 1 membership and tested it out with my own personal email. I set up a PayPal payment profile and tried to access the pages I restricted "at Level 1 or higher," but I was still getting the Membership Options Page. The only alternative I could see was to move the page restrictions to Level 0 but that means anyone just registering can access my content.

Do I need a different PayPal button? Did s2Member not get my profile? I also didn't receive the login confirmation email from s2Member to my personal account. I should have received this, right?

Please make sure that you are logged in to your test level 1 account and then try to view the protected page again, please. Let me know how it goes.

Yeah, I tried it again and I still get the Membership Options Page. Could it be a problem with PayPal integration or with the button I generated? I don't know how because I generated a PayPal button at Level 1 and I have those page restrictions set at "level 1 or higher."

Got it.

Could you check the account's profile and tell me what level it's set at?

Could you please also show me the shortcode you generated for your PayPal Button and post the s2Member log entries for those transactions x'ing out any private data? You need to have enabled WP Admin -> s2Member -> PayPal Options -> PayPal Account Details -> Enable Logging Routines and after the transactions you'll find the log in the /wp-content/plugins/s2member-logs/ directory.

I'm not sure how to check out my profile. When I click "Edit my Profile" I'm taken to the Login Welcome Page. ??? This was another question I have.

I don't understand. You are logged in to the account and when clicking "edit my profile" you get taken to the Login Welcome Page as if you had logged in? And what happens if you click the "edit my profile" link again?

By the way, what did you set as your Login Welcome Page?

That's correct. When I go up to the tab at the top that has my username and hover over it, the drop down box comes down with two tabs, "Edit my Profile" and "Log Out." When I click on "Edit my Profile," it takes me to the Login Welcome Page. I've tried clicking on it again and the same thing happens.

As far as what I set as my Login Welcome Page, I followed s2Member's instructions and set up a new page and named it "Login Welcome Page." I set that page in the "Your Login Welcome Page" tab in the s2Member QuickStart Guide.

Well, this video addressed the fact that customers were NOT getting the Login Welcome Page when they should, but it seems my problem is the opposite: customers are getting the Login Welcome Page when they shouldn't, when they try to edit their profile. My members ARE redirected to the Login Welcome Page when they log in, as they should be.

And when they're already logged in to their account (with full page access) they are still redirected to my Membership Options Page instead of the protected content.

OK...

Maybe another plugin is conflicting and sending you to the Login Welcome Page when trying to view the profile? Could you please deactive other plugins until this works properly or you only have s2Member left?

No, I've deactivated most of the plugins. I don't think it's a matter of the Login Welcome Page. For some reason the "Edit My Profile" link is stuck on that. I think it has more to do with the Edit My Profile properties. Is there a way to check that out? When I'm logged in as an administrator, the Edit My Profile link works and takes me straight to my profile. It just doesn't work when a user/member tries it.

The issue with the PayPal button is now taken care of. It was an old button and I generated a new one and this works smoothly, with several glitches being resolved. I do still have the problem, however, of "Edit My Profile" being automatically redirected to the Login Welcome Page."

Glad you solved the button issue. :)

About the profile link, what's the URL your link has? Is it to /wp-admin/profile.php?

The HTML code for that link is <a href="http://drawingartinstruction.com/?page_id=49">Edit My Profile</a> so it seems to be pointing to one of my pages (the Login Welcome Page). But I have no idea how to change that. Can you tell me how to fix it?

Are you using the default theme or a different one that may have the code wrong? Are you using a plugin that affects the area where the link is?

I am not using the default Twenty Ten theme. I'm using "Adventure Layout," which I made sure was in place before I started working on my WordPress site, in case some of the stuff I did would conflict with it. As far as your second question, I honestly have no idea. I can give you a list of the plugins I'm using, but none of them should be affecting the Profile file. Is there a way I can change the HTML code or something?

Could you change, as a test, the theme to Twenty Ten and see if that Profile link still points elsewhere? If not, then the problem is in the Adventure Layout theme and you'd need to look for the template file that has that line and fix it.

If the problem still exists in Twenty Ten, then it may be caused by a plugin, so try deactivating them until the link works properly and the problem was caused by the last plugin you deactivated in your test.

Would I lose anything I've done by changing my theme?
