Quick question on upgrading

Postby cassel » June 16th, 2011, 8:03 am

I love s2Member and what it does. So far, i have only the free version and i am happy with what it does. One specific part of the Pro version that is currently interesting me is the use of coupon as this would fit nicely in the marketing strategies i want to use. Most of the other stuff, like other integration for payments and such are not interesting me (at least not yet). My question is this: if i upgrade to Pro, can i just keep the exact same settings i currently have, meaning no change in Paypal setup, no change in custom capabilities coding and really ONLY use the coupon feature of the Pro version? (i surely dont want to change what is currently working fine)

Anything you have in s2Member will keep working the same way, s2Member Pro just adds things you can use.

Coupon codes work with s2Member Pro's Pro-Forms, so the PayPal buttons would need to be changed to PayPal Pro-Forms, though. You will need to change that to use the coupons.

No, you can keep using PayPal Standard. They are PayPal Pro-Forms as in s2Member Pro forms for PayPal.

Yet another quick question. The pro version is counted as single license and multiple licenses. Can i install the plugin on my test sites if i get the single license? I NEED to test everything i do on a test site before going live as i am not knowledgeable enough to do everything from the first time around.

Yes, it's for a single live site.

Ok thanks. I was afraid there was some kind of a code that would "know" of the other installation.
Didn't get it yet, as i am working on other things, but it is just a matter of days!

I just purchased the Pro version. Following the instructions, i uploaded the folder to the right place on the WP installation. I am doing this on my test site, and it already had the free version of s2Member. Now, when i refreshed my page, i do not get anything from the Pro version, and i get this warning:
In order to load the s2Member Pro Module, you need the s2Member Framework, v110606+. It's free.

but i DID have it installed, and working. Does that mean i have to re-install s2Member free possibly because of a different version?? and if i do, will i risk loosing all the customization i made?

I knew i would have more questions.

I noticed the login widget and installed it on my test site (http://digiscrapcampus.com/main). It is at the very bottom with a dark orange background (i didn't want to miss it when comparing). I love how it gives the options to the user to edit their profile, and such but:
- will that translate to their MailChimp account too?
- can i make that "box" prettier by inserting those fun yellow buttons i have in other login trial boxes above? If so, where would i insert them?
Currently, i have them coded with a conditional where it displays something if not logged in and something else if logged in (using s2M conditionals!) so i can actually edit the content right there. With the widget, where would i edit it?

What do you mean by translating to the MailChimp account?

You can edit the widget's look with CSS using the IDs and classes as selectors. You may be able to add the buttons using CSS too.

Well done for learning how to use the conditionals for this! But you don't need to worry about that with s2Member's Pro Login Widget because the widget will already changes what it shows based on whether the user is logged in or not.

The question about the MailChimp account is simply because until now, i was using a form generated by MailChimp. I had it coded by someone and place AS IF it was a widget, and the form was accompanied with fun buttons and an image for the ebook, all that, conditional to the visitor NOT being logged in. So, i was unsure that using the login from the s2Member would automatically make any registration there, automatically done in MailChimp too (so the user is registered both on the site and on the mailing list).

I was hoping NOT to have to touch CSS (i had enough to learn about the conditionals without throwing in more stuff!!!)

Ah, I see what you mean. Well, you can still have your MailChimp opt-in box if you want. Also, it's possible to integrate s2Member with MailChimp so new user accounts get added to your list too.

http://www.s2member.com/api-list-servers-video/
WP Admin -> s2Member -> API / List Servers -> MailChimp
WP Admin -> s2Member -> API / List Servers -> Registration / Double Opt-In Box
WP Admin -> s2Member -> API / List Servers -> Automate Un-Subscribe/Opt-Outs

Yes, it does integrate nicely, but is there a way to add the fun yellow button to that widget now?
