How to I add tax?

Postby kcgagne » June 16th, 2011, 10:41 pm

I've searched and just can't find it. I need a recurring annual membership, cost $125 CAD plus 13% HST. How do I do this in s2member/paypal? Or can I only separate the price and tax in s2member pro???

Thanks!

In s2Member Pro you'll find the tax settings here WP Admin -> s2Member -> PayPal Options -> Tax Rate Calculations (Pro-Form).

Examples:

US=7.0%
CA=12.0%
HK=0.0%
FLORIDA/US=7.5%
IDAHO/US=6.0%
ALBERTA/CA=5.0%
BRITISH COLUMBIA/CA=12.0%
32000-34999/US=7.5%
83200-83999/US=6.0%
32601/US=6.5%

Does that help?

So, this can NOT be done without purchasing the S2Member Pro add-on, correct?

Correct, the free version doesn't have the taxes feature.

Couldn't you just have the tax included in the price you charge with the PayPal button?

Yes, that's what I ended up doing. I just wanted to make sure I wasn't missing anything.

Thanks for your replies! I appreciate it.

My website client is now requesting paypal & membership tracking for each place they sell memberships:
"We need to add the following taxes to Edmonton and Vancouver membership prices to paypal.
Edmonton = tax is 5%, Vancouver – tax is 12% (this is changing in 2012)"

I get that they need S2Member Pro so they can add the different taxes to a tax file. I also understand that PayPal Pro Integration is required. Does this also require a SSL certificate? (The price is adding up fast.)

IF we make those purchases, will S2Member Pro save the member location somewhere?

Thanks for all your assistance.

Right: tax rate works with the pro-forms, which require PayPal Pro (or Auth.Net), and that requires an SSL cert.

I'm not sure that s2Member saves the billing address anywhere. I'll ask Jason about this.

No, for security purposes, all financial and personally identifiable information about the Customer remains stored securely inside your Payment Gateway ( i.e. PayPal ), and NOT with WordPress®. With the exception of the Customer's First/Last Name and Email Address, which ARE collected by s2Member, along with any Custom Registration Fields that you configure.
All financial details, such as pricing, trial periods, subscription lengths, refunds, and other Customer service issues; should be handled by YOU, through your PayPal® account, and NOT through WordPress®. Feel free to modify your Members' Subscriptions via PayPal® as often as you like. s2Member will be notified through the PayPal® IPN service behind-the-scene automatically. For example... If you log into PayPal® and cancel a Member's paid Subscription, s2Member will be notified by PayPal® behind-the-scene, and s2Member will remove their Membership privileges at the correct point in time.
