If a user uses a coupon to purchase a recurring membership is the coupon going to apply for just the first month's payment or for every month's payment?

I can't figure out what exactly your concern is. As far as I know, if you have a coupon, you need not pay the discount stated on it. That is, if you're only applying on the basis of monthly payment.
