Member upgrade failed

I finally (big silly grin) got some paying members for my website. A whole three of them. But there was a problem.

I received all three notifications from PayPal that they had paid.

But only one of the three was set to S2Member Level 1. The other two were not, so I had to do it manually (and then send some email notifying them that they now had full access to my website).

The difference between these people is that the one who was set to S2Member Level 1 was a brand new person on my website. The other two had already signed up as free Subscribers a month or so ago.

I did search the forum before posting this, but couldn't find a problem that showed a similar discrepancy (at least, using the words I was searching for).

Any ideas?
