protecting buddypress pages for S2members only

Postby Jane1 » July 21st, 2011, 9:41 am

Hello,

I just installed buddypress and am trying to figure out the easiest way to make it accessible only to S2members.

One thought that came to mind was to create a new page for the buddpress urls (for example, create a Forums page for www.mywebsite.com/forums) and then select the s2member page level restriction option that I want for that specific page. I tried it by logging out as admin and then looking at what the page shows (hoping the computer wouldn't recognize me as a logged in member) and noticed that the activity page didn't have the What's up? comment box but the members page did show me the comments I wrote earlier while signed in. I haven't set up the forums yet so I don't know if that would be protected or not just by using the page level restriction option.

What is the best (and easiest) way to protect the buddypress pages for S2members? Just so you know, I'd prefer not to have the members sign in or register for buddypress if they already signed in to access the other protected content. Instead, I'd like the signed in members to be able to access the forums directly.

Thank you in advance.

Hi Jane.

Have you integrated BuddyPress with WordPress already? To restrict access to BuddyPress areas using s2Member, try the URI restrictions. WP Admin -> s2Member -> Restriction Options -> URI Restrictions

Yes, my understanding is that it's integrated since I finished the three steps with BP TemplatePack plugin (which looked a lot like integration steps I found online) and the BBpress pages have my website's theme on them. I also added the URIs as instructed- I hadn't paid specific note to that section earlier since I wasn't thinking of using BBpress until yesterday.

My remaining question is just to confirm that members don't have to register to access these pages but that they'll just be able to click the protected URI links and be able to participate instantly?

Thanks so much for the help.

On that last note, I didn't include BBPress /register/ as a protected URI because I'm assuming members won't have to register. Is that ok?

Thanks again.
