Help. Cannot access s2member backend

Hi there,

I have s2member installed on WP v3.2.1 and I can't set it up because when I click the links in the admin dashboard I get a 403 error.

The link it is directing me to is: http://mydomain.com/wp-admin/admin.php? ... mber-start

I have tried deactivating/reactivating, reinstalling and I checked the file permissions with my FTP manager. I am using admin account so that isn't the issue either.

If someone could help me get this working it would be appreciated.

Hi.

I had buggy problems like that on an install a while ago, and it turned out that s2Member had been extra-installed into the wrong areas (I may have accidentally put it there with stray mouse clicks using FTP).

I suggest looking into three areas:
1. the wp-content folder to verify that a copy of s2Member is not installed there,
2. the wp-content/plugins directory to verify that only one copy of s2Member is installed there, and inside
3. wp-content/plugins/s2member to verify that an extra copy is not installed there.

What do you mean there is an extra copy installed? I don't think files just sitting in those directories could cause any problems unless they overwrite other ones. I checked those directories and there was just the 3 folders in /wp-content/plugins named s2member, s2member-files, and s2member-logs.

Thanks for the reply though.

Could you explain what links are taking you there? Maybe post a screenshot?

What version of s2Member are you using?

Latest version of WP and s2member, these are the links from the WP dashboard like: "Quick-start guide", "Multi-site (config)", "General Options", etc.

That's very odd.

Did you try re-installing following these instructions? viewtopic.php?f=36&t=247

Do those links all point to the URL you mentioned or are they all different but you end up taken to the same URL?

I can't do what's instructing in the link because since I can't access s2member I have no way to enable reactivation safeguards.

Yes, the links are all different but they all take me to a forbidden page.

Ex.
Quick Start - http://mydomain.com/wp-admin/admin.php? ... mber-start
Multi Site - http://mydomain.com/wp-admin/admin.php? ... er-mms-ops

Thanks.

Could you try, as a test, installing a new WP in another directory and adding s2Member to see if they work in a clean installation in the same server?

If they do there, then there is something else in your current installation causing this problem, maybe another plugin or the theme.

Okay, I installed a second WP installation and have the same issue. I thought it also could have been an .htaccess issue because that would affect the subfolder I have it installed to but I deleted it and that didn't fix anything.

Sorry for the long reply but it took the person who's site I'm working on a while to create me a new database.

I could provide you with login details if that would help!

I see. It may be a problem with the server then. Could you try this? viewtopic.php?f=36&t=2636

And try a new installation in another server you have access to.

What version of WordPress and s2Member are you testing?

Thanks for directing me to that. When I uploaded the directory with the .php test scripts I couldn't access that either so I knew it was at all related to wordpress and it turned out to be a server configuration issue.

Please mark this is as solved, thanks. :D
