I am using s2member on a site I built for a local publishing company http://www.graciepublishing.biz. They have a new publication ThriftyChef.com. When they purchase the book they get a free subscription to the chefs table and recipes. Is there any way to send a membership login with the book when purchase as a gift and not through the site?

You can generate registration links and send them to the buyers. WP Admin -> s2Member -> PayPal Buttons -> PayPal Member Registration Access Links

Or you could have a free registration pro-form in a hidden page that only buyers would get the address of. WP Admin -> s2Member -> PayPal Pro-Forms -> Free Registration Forms

Where you want the link to be. Could be a theme template, a widget, a page. Depends on what you want.

I'm looking for a way to do this for when I launch a new site. Basically there is a forum on the site using Simple:press forum and I will be announcing the website to friends and family when it is ready to launch and would like to offer free memberships to the forum to these people, also as a way to help bolster our initial forum numbers. The first option of generating the link with Paypal is not optimal as I don't know how many people will be interested and thus wouldn't know how many links to generate (and would have to send them out individually). As for the second option, I don't have a Paypal Pro account at the moment.

Is there possibly a way to start off and allow Level 2 memberships to be free (not have to go through paypal), give the link to sign up in the group e-mail I send out, and then after this initial launch, completely close membership again and charge for it?

You can, with s2Member Pro, create a page with a free registration pro-form. This pro-form will let them register free and let you set the Level and Custom Capabilities they register with. WP Admin -> s2Member -> PayPal Pro-Forms -> Free Registration

Ah, ok. So no free way to do it? :S Sorry, site's not launched yet so want to see what I can do with free versions before I've made any money to spend.

Well, you can have them register free with the standard wp-login.php/action=register and then edit their profiles to have the paid role.

So for this I'd have to go through S2member and re-open the open registration temporarily I guess, then manually change permissions/profiles, and then close open registration again when I'm done?
