How is Credit Card info protected in PRO version?

Hello,
I am planing to implement a service using the PayPal Pro offering. After reviewing the Pay Pal Pro feature list, I came to wonder how s2Member is managing/storing the credit card information. According to PayPal, the store owner is responsible for handling the financial data when using the PRO version. How does s2Member protect the financial and personal data that is being entered during the checkout process?
What information in particular does the Security Encryption Key feature encrypt?
Any insight is much appreciated.
Regards,
Martin
