upgrade with credit for time already purchased

I have a WordPress site with s2Member Pro installed. I want to allow users to upgrade to another level, and I plan to use a PayPal Pro Billing Modification form to accomplish this. As I understand it, the upgrade takes effect immediately, and the user gets no credit for time within the current month already purchased. Is this true? Is there any recommended way of providing credit for time within the current month already purchased? I suppose I could adjust the price for the first month, if I knew how many days were left in the month already purchased. Is there any way for some PHP code in the page to get this information?
