No Signup confirmation email

I just tested the site and did a sign up through Paypal.

The "member" received the e-mail from Paypal stating that the paypal auto-payments had been set up, but did not receive the "Signup confirmation email" from my website that gives them the link to the registration page.

This is what is in the Paypal-->Signup confirmation email(standard) -->Signup Confirmation Recipients box
"%%full_name%%" <%%payer_email%%> That was already there.

This site does offer a free trial.

Any ideas why we would not get the e-mail?

Hi, I am experiencing the same problem. Except the "signup confirmation email" does not come at all. Only the paypal email stating that auto-payments have been set up comes. After that, nothing. :( I also offer a free trial. Can anyone suggest anything I can try? I am clueless how to proceed from here.

Could you please post the log entries for that transaction, x'ing out any private info? WP Admin -> s2Member -> PayPal Options -> Account Details -> Enable Logging Routines

I'm having the exact same problem. Interestingly, other emails DO arrive. For example, s2member sends us a notification when a new user registers or purchases. The only email that goes missing is the new user registration email that users should get with their user name and password. It's a pretty big problem for us right now.

Update: I changed the email configuration settings back to Wordpress's default new user email and it works.

Interesting. I never changed mine from Wordpress's default new user email and still not working. :( Not sure if there are other ways to get around this without having to discontinue my free trial option. :( Any other suggestions?

Beaner, does it work now with the latest release of s2Member?

I see in your log something that seems wrong:

The "Webmaster" part is right next to the previous email address, without a separation, and it's separated from its email address after it. Could you check to make sure your settings are right? WP Admin -> s2Member -> General Options -> Email Configuration -> New User

s_d_p, thanks for reporting that. If you try the custom New User Email now, does it still not work?

It's tricky for me to test that because that site has gone live, but I'll give it a shot. Although we've worked around it, it would still be nice to use that feature. I'll see what I can do.

I'm in the same camp: here's the latest instance of a dissatisfied customer as a result of this bug (with personal details removed). For him, and intermittently others, I get 2 emails--a payment and a recurring payment--but not the third of a new user. It may be that he is an existing user who should upgrade rather than join--perhaps that is the root of the problem. But it is a regular one if so, and a structured way to cope with this is definitely needed:

Dear Prof. Keen

Some days ago (9/22 I believe) I made a paypal payment for your 1 yr recurring registration. Now when I try to log in, I get a message that my customer name is wrong. My paypal account shows that the payment went through.

I should be either xxxxx or xxxxx@msn.com. Neither one is recognized.

Please advise what I do next to access your lectures.

hi there

me too! i have a new installation and offering free membership level and none of my new members are receiving new account email confirmations, admin receives theirs but not the new user. so i checked out the lost password email and this isn't working either.

could someone look into this for me and could some kind person also tell me how to switch to the email configuration back to wordpress default please (its ok i find this), so i can see if that works. i checked with setting back to wordpress defaults and my users still don't get an email, nor can they receive emails for lost password.

any help would be very much appreciated.

The log entries would help.

Do you allow free registrations? WP Admin -> s2Member -> General Options -> Open Registration In that case you could have the situation where a user already has an account and isn't logged in when he clicks the order button, in which case the existing account won't be upgraded, instead he'll be required to register again or need you to edit his profile manually.

I think that's the cause of the problem, as I noted in another thread where I posted this and attached the log files (repeated for this message also). I have over 12,000 free members already, and I think that's what's going on.

This is an issue for any established blog like mine: would it be possible to put an IF statement in to catch the situation where someone who is already enrolled wrongly chooses to enrol "for the first time", rather than upgrading?

I really don't want to have to do this manually for 12,500 people... -:) And when I do, I'm not sure that I've entered information which is going to have them sent an automatic renewal notice either.

PS I removed free registration a few weeks ago, but I still have this legacy situation of more than 12,500 already free members. This raises another issue: is it possible to upgrade all free members to a paid level, so that in a year's time they will be sent a renewal notice???

Well, you could have a condition to show the payment button to logged in, free members only. WP Admin -> s2Member -> API / Scripting -> Simple/Shortcode Conditionals

Or you can show it to everyone but mention that if he already has an account, he should log into it first and then pay, so his existing account gets upgraded, instead of having to create a new one.

Thanks Cristian, that looks like a good idea. But what if I simply upgraded everyone who is currently free to the lowest subscriber level; would that mean they would automatically get a renewal notice in a year's time?

No, s2Member doesn't send EOT reminders yet. You could schedule an email in your list server to notify them, though.
