Login fails

PostPosted: August 27th, 2011, 11:38 pm

When I register a new user, I get the following link:

http://www.musiceverybody.net/wp-login.php

When I login with the correct username and password, I am sent to yet another login link:

http://www.musiceverybody.net/login-welcome/

My login details fail to access the above link successfully.

What is the problem?

I assigned the user Level 4 access.

I believe I've configured all the stuff.

Thanks for your help.

John

After you login (e.g. from wp-login.php) s2Member takes you to the Login Welcome Page you configured in the s2Member options. WP Admin -> s2Member -> General Options -> Login Welcome Page

This is not a login page, it's the page to welcome the user right after logging in, so you're already logged in, not requested to log in.

s2Member restricts access to the Login Welcome Page at Level 0, which is a free logged in user, and this can be accessed by any user with a level of 0 or above. Any user, including free ones, have this level of access.

I hope that helps.

Sorry, I'm really lost.

It just doesn't seem like a friendly interface for visitors to be faced with a second login screen. Doesn't it tell you that you're not logged in? How would I know why I can't get to the page I want if all I have is another login screen? Something is seriously missing here.

I'll watch all the videos again. Not that I expect it will make any better sense the third time.

Thanks,
John

I'm not sure we're on the same page. s2Member doesn't show you a login form after you login, so I'm confused with what you tell me. Could you please take a screenshot of the page you're shown right after you login and post it here, please? Thanks!

Thanks for the video, John. I could understand better what's happening on your side watching it.

Now, that login form in the Login Welcome page you chose, is not put there by s2Member. I'm not sure at this moment what does, though. Could you show me the edit page for that Login Welcome page? Thanks!

Thanks again for the udpate. I see in your page a collapsed panel named Membership Options which is not added by s2Member, but probably by another plugin or OptimizePress. Could you expand it and take a look at that, please? Thanks!

Here's part 3.

Is the redirect on Login Welcome secure?

Thanks,
John

Thank you John. I think I found the source of your problem!

At the bottom of the right sidebar, there's a box named Page Attributes with a drop-down for Template with the option Members 1 Login Page (WP) selected.

I hope that solves it. :)

Well, something different happens.

It doesn't do the loop, but it redirects to the Membership Options page.

Also, the only way I can login now is /wp-admin. Does that say anything?

Maybe you keep forgetting, but the question I asked a couple times before....is the redirect for the Login Welcome page secure?

I'm going on holiday. I need a break. I'll be back to work on Tuesday, September 6th.

Please forward the next steps.

Thanks for you help.

John

Also, the Login Welcome page attribute is now Sales Style 1.

Thanks John. See you then, have a nice break. :)

I'm not familiar with Optimize Press styles. Maybe you can post this question in their forum. If I'm not wrong, they're aware of s2Member and can help you with it in relation to Optimize Press' features.

When you get sent to the Membership Options page, could you copy the URL of the page after the redirection and paste it here? Remove the domain name if you want, I'm interested in the variables after it. WP Admin -> s2Member -> API / Scripting -> Membership Options Page Variables

About the Login Welcome page redirection problem, this video may help: http://www.s2member.com/login-welcome-p ... cts-video/

I don't know about logging in from /wp-admin.php, did you mean /wp-login.php?

Here's the latest...

Another domain -- no OptimizePress installed, but same results.

Hi John.

I'm watching the new video and will be commenting as I go:

I see you have no header, footer or sidebars in the Login Welcome page and that is not something s2Member does. s2Member only uses that page to send the person to it after a login and protects it at level 0, it doesn't do anything at all to the page's design. I looked in the editing page for it and saw below the editor, a panel named "Wea... (can't make out the first word) Options for this page" and it has ticks for "Hide entire heading" (or something like that), "hide entire footer" and "hide sidebars". That'd be why they aren't in the page. The Membership Options page has these same options checked.

About the redirection to the Membership Options at the beginning of the video, when you still had the Login Welcome as a redirection URL: The Membership Options Page Vars say you were trying to load page 445 and requires a level 0 access. These vars are not something you configure, they're appended at the end of the Membership Options Page's URL when someone gets sent there and you can tell where he came from and why he got bounced. They are explained in the documentation given in the panel I pointed you to.

445 the Video Tutorials page instead of the one you named Login Welcome, which has the ID 400. Now, 445 is the page you protected at level 2, but you also set it as your Login Welcome Page, which by default sets it at level 0 because anyone that logs in (including a level 0 member) should be able to see it. Why does it send you to the Membership Options if you just logged in? I'm guessing probably a conflict because of the mixed settings for it.

The reason to have the Login Welcome Page, which you mention not understanding what it's there for, is to have a sort of Home Page for the logged in member. A single page that he'll always see right after logging in. You can show him member updates and stuff like that there, you could show him upgrade buttons, you can give him an important members-only announcement, etc.

I hope that helps.

Could this be a problem with Restricting ID 445 which has no "www" while directing the link to the "www.creatorsite.net" ?

Just thinking on your links from the Login Welcome... remove the "www" from the <a href="
see if it does any good -
Was curious if perhaps its treating it differently because of going through .htaccess to try and drop the www for you. : /

Best of all, you have a sense of humor.

Okay I admit, part of me was serious, but "marriage" might not be the best word.

Where in this gorgeous world do you live?

I'm in the San Francisco area.

You've set the tone for a spectacular weekend.

thanks,
John
