1) Do members need to login to wordpress in order to access locked content? Or is this all done by cookies or isp ( I was browsing around not logged in and It was not allowing me access to pages which is how it is supposed to work) But how do the members actually know their logged in as a paid member?
Yes, members must be logged in to view content. The whole cookie thing really would be very unreliable as a person can clear their cookies at any time, and the bit about the ISP also could be compromised. The system s2Member currently uses is, in my opinion not only the most popular, but the best.
Whenever a person isn't logged in, they should be redirected to the Membership Options Page, which is where the user of the s2Member plugin will generally put a login link, a registration link, and their PayPal Buttons or PayPal Pro Forms.
Whenever you're just getting used to the s2Member plugin, it might be a good idea to read through the Quick Start Guide (Under
Dashboard -> s2Member -> Quick-Start Guide)

I don't know of any videos of this, but I do know that one thing that could be useful would be to put your site into Sandbox testing mode (You can find the checkbox for this under
Dashboard -> s2Member -> PayPal Options ->PayPal Account Details. Then again, you would have to set up a sandbox account.
You can do this at

s2Member (including the free version) simply uses a page to redirect to as the member's area/ Login Welcome Page
Therefore, you could just select the page you have set up under
Dashboard -> s2Member -> General Options -> Login Welcome Page however you wanted.
essej88 wrote:4) Do you guys have any good examlpes of a site using this plugin.
Well, there are alot of sites using the s2Member plugin. You could check it out at
PrimoThemes.com or
s2Member.com, as they both use the s2Member Plugin.
Or, there are plenty of other posts with other sites using s2Member if you browse through the forum.
To see the full list of features, you can go to

P.S. If you have any further questions, and you can't find the answers in the Quick-Start Guide, feel free to post a response.
