hiring someone to add in a photo upload feature

I'm in the process of hiring someone to add in a photo upload feature to the profile page (I'm using the Member Profile Modifications feature which doesn't have that built in). I was told though that I need to purchase the pro version. This is what the developer I'm thinking of hiring said:

Hi, I'm afraid that you must purchase the Pro version before you attempt to make changes to its PHP code. Sure you can do it on the non-Pro version but you will get errors here and there. I've been through that mistake so I know what I'm talking about. Once you get the Pro version, you can do any layout changes to its themes.

Is that true? Also, am I jumping the gun on hiring someone to build that feature out? It will cost me around $200 to get that feature added in. Just wasn't sure if the free or pro version will be coming out with feature soon. If so, I could wait perhaps.

@seozones

I looked into adding the same feature a few months ago, but gave up because I was not advance enough in coding.

It might actually be better to pay one of the developers of the popular avatar plugins already available within WordPress to build this feature within their plugin. Here is a short list to consider:

Add Local Avatar
Simple Local Avatars
User Avatar

I would possibly be willing to pitch in for the development.

@seozones -

What kind of functionality are you looking for? It could be that the plugin can do what you need already.

I'm use the s2member_pro_login_widget() function (so, pro version, I would think) to display a login form for my members, and it appears to pull in gravitar images for me. I've recently added wp-facebook-autoconnect so members can join using their facebook account, and now it pulls in the facebook profile picture as well.

If you're looking for full size photo uploads, then there are plugins that make photo uploads easy for site members...

S2Member - I've found the pro upgrade well worth the cost. We tried out the free version and liked it, but the pro version has so many perks it was a must have.

Thanks damron. Yes, I will most likely purchase it. Since s2member doesn't authenticate the plugin against a purchase license or key, couldn't anyone just distribute a free copy? Or am I missing something?

Thanks for the kudos! :)

I'm not sure I'm understanding what worries you about the license authentication. Could you explain it, please?

Hi Cristian. it's all good. So I can buy the pro version from an affiliate like this website, right?

http://wpwebshop.com/premium-wordpress- ... /discount/

I justed to make sure they were a legit affiliate and lifetime upgrades would be included.

Ah, got it. I understand why you'd worry. Just make sure you purchase the license from s2member.com. http://www.s2member.com/prices/ Click the button for one of the licenses and you can try the coupon code in the pro-form. :)

Christian,

With all respect, but could you please clarify why seozones should worry when he buys S2 Member Pro through our website? I think we are a very good performing affiliate and running a 100% honest business here, so I'm VERY interested in your explanation.

Thanks for the heads up on this thread.

Hi Rene. I think Cristian was just trying to eliminate any doubt for the Customer in this case, by explaining how to come directly to our website ( if there ever was a reason to doubt another ad ). For instance, there are some folks out there that like to illegally redistribute software for a fee. They have no way to provide support for it, and no way to provide updates for it in the future.

For Mike, and for the benefit of other readers.

There's nothing wrong with going through an affiliate link or coupon code to make your purchase of s2Member Pro. When you purchase s2Member Pro at s2Member.com ( regardless of how you got there, or what coupon code you use ), you WILL receive updates in the future, no exceptions.

And also, this company ( http://wpwebshop.com ), is one of our top performing affiliates. As mentioned above, there is absolutely nothing wrong with purchasing your copy of s2Member Pro through them.

What I meant when I said that, was that I could understand he'd want to make sure since it wasn't the official site for s2Member. I didn't mean to imply that you weren't trustworthy. I'm glad Jason now reassured anyone wanting to purchase through you. :)
