Alt. View Protection not protecting WP's default widget

Postby skinnytires » September 29th, 2011, 10:43 pm

Alternative View Protection does not seem to protect comments of protected pages within WP's default "latest comments" widget.

The docs say to mention issues related to Alternative View Protection so I thought I'd post it here.

Thanks much.

Also, let me make sure I understand this:

+ Setting this: Comment Feeds ( hide comments associated with protected content ) will mean only people with the proper membership level can view those comments -- or NO ONE can view those items?

My admin account can view level 0 protected comments as expected. A level 0 user, cannot view the level 0 post comments in the comments feed.

This isn't an issue for me - as I'm looking for the ability to hide these comments on the feed (and some other places) from EVERYONE. But it's not working as I expected which is why I'm noting it here.

I've tried to bust the caching of feeds with funky query string variables - so that doesn't seem to be an issue..

Thanks for the heads up on this thread.
Yes, I see what you mean. Currently, s2Member can protect comment feeds, but it does not filter individual comment queries, which appear to run on their own separate class from within the WordPress core. I'm adding this to our TODO list for a future release.
