Automate Emails to subscribers due to expire

My client wants to communicate with free trial subscribers who are close to their expiration to remind them to sign up for paid membership. We also want to communicate with customers who did not migrate from free to paid and invite them to "come back" and ask them if there is a reason that they did not subscribe. I'm convinced there should be a way to do this but I have not been able to figure it out - what am I missing?

I tried to do this through Mailchimp but Mailchimp does not get the EOT field from S2member so this could be a dead end. I briefly looked into BuddyPress but that seems like overkill because we are not a "social networking" site.

Is there a way I can do this through Wordpress? should I reconsider Buddypress? Can I get the right info over to Mailchimp? This seems like a common problem that others must have overcome - any suggestions would be welcome!

From various threads and requests, i dont think it is possible... yet. However, after a lot of whining (ok, not whining, but a lot of requests), i read that it is something they are currently working on, so it might be in a near release. No date was offered though.
