Can't create a custom registration field

Postby pipster » November 3rd, 2011, 4:18 pm

Evening / Morning all - depending on time zone and of course when you're reading this!

I'm a complete newbie to wordpress and s2member so please bear with me.

I'm trying to add a new custome field to the registration field but every time I try to add one by fillin gin all the required fields and pressing the "Create Registration Field" butting nothing happens, then I press it again and it tells me that the Field ID already exists. I've tried using completely random field ID characters so I know that they don't but it just won't save. Am I missing a step or making a school boy error somewhere??

I'm using v111029 freshly installed on the latest version of wordpress it's a completly new install so I'm a bit lost.

Please help and as I grow my understanding I will help others, I promise!

Thanks,

pip

That's odd.

Were you able to create at least one custom registration field? If not, how come it's saying it isn't unique, if there isn't another one?

Are you using other plugins? Are you using a theme that isn't the default? I ask in case there is a JavaScript with some other addition. There shouldn't be a problem with a clean WP installation, though.

Thanks for the reply.

No, there's no other custom fields, it won't let me create any, strange I know.

I'm using a different Theme, I'm using InFocus http://themeforest.net/item/infocus-pow ... heme/85486 could this be the problem? Is there any files that you want me to post on here or anything??

Thanks in advance!!

Try changing the theme to the WordPress default, the "Twenty Eleven" theme and see if it works.

I just created a custom field without trouble, and we haven't received other reports of the problem you're having. Why don't you try re-installing? See if that helps. viewtopic.php?f=36&t=247

Thanks for your reply Cristian, I've upraded to the new version, I've re installed but I'm still getting the same problem.

Is it at all possible to let me know which file it uses to write to the data base as it appears that I click the button then it just doesn't update or do anything. How fast should it save the field?

Can I use another tool to let people register on my site? Or do you recommend I use an enquiry form and then just add the members in manually??

Please help!!

Thanks,

Pip

Hmm... OK, then the problem is not in the files.

Could you try reinstalling s2Member, but this time, before deactivating, make sure that you disable the Deactivation Safeguards so nothing gets left behind? Otherwise, when you reinstall nothing changed in the database. WP Admin -> s2Member -> General Options -> Deactivation Safeguards

Exact same problem here, exact same circumstances. Would think the /# link is a clue. Any hope of a resolution with this?

Hi,
I had Jason take a look at my site and he pointed out the site was throwing an error message (using firebug) when trying to access one of s2Member's javascript files so I dug in and if you're interested in the analysis read on, otherwise jump to the solution section for details on what worked for me:

Analysis:
I found that the error message was also complaining about access to a .htaccess file. This is used by s2member to implement security however if you see this file in places where it shouldn't be throughout your site that generally a sign of a possible attack on your site, and don't panic, or that something is setup incorrectly. I found that the particular error I received was coming from IIS server stating it couldn't process .htaccess. Wordpress is PHP/Apache based so IIS isn't needed. I remembered then that I had enabled Remote IIS Management (under Management tab in hosting control panel if you have the same setup) and also had enabled publishing because I had also deployed a .Net solution to the same "Website" under another virtual directory. Turns out Wordpress and S2member don't play nice together with other .Net applications when IIS is enabled on the same directory. Disabled those and viola everything works now. Had to move ASP.Net application to some other spot.
