Making sense of wordpress/buddypress/s2member Hierarchies

Postby wayhow » December 8th, 2011, 5:07 pm

In the s2member Pro introduction [3] vid (around 6 mins in) mention is made about the s2 Clean Theme package coming with 2 additional nav menu slots for users who are/aren't logged in.

That's great but i'm now really confused as to how/where the customization occurs.
If a website is built on Wordpress using some key plugins such as BuddyPress for social networking, s2member Pro for memberships etc.. and the look/feel according to whether someone is logged in or not is decided according to the setup in s2member Pro, as that is such an overwhelmingly important (i.e. top level) aspect of the user experience, would that not mean that other plugins such as BuddyPress would essentially be working 'under' the protocols of s2member Pro.. and if so.. do they do that just fine?

Please excuse my terminology & ignorance of how this kind of stuff technically works as i'm more of a concept kind of guy. I run a few meetup groups with 1500+ members that I plan to transfer into my own integrated socially networked membership site. After lots of procrastination from being overwhelmed by the pro's & cons of going down the WordPress, Joolmla, Drupal or Bespoke routes, I have decided to go fully into WordPress/Buddypress and take it from there.

By the way.. Brilliant, clear video's. My biggest issue with tech orgs is the lack of straightforward thinking/talking. These video's do that well & it translates into your pricing as well, straightforward & upfront!
It's a big influencer for me on choosing which technologies to go with.

Many thanks

Thanks for the kudos! Very glad you're feeling comfortable with s2Member. :)

About the s2Member and BuddyPress integration, there are a few settings for that under WP Admin -> s2Member -> General Options -> Registration/Profile -> BuddyPress Integration

Now, the s2Clean theme is not designed for BuddyPress. However, we've had reports that this plugin will convert s2Clean to support BuddyPress automatically: http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/bp-template-pack/

I hope that helps! Let us know if you have any other questions.
