slow registration

I have a registration form with 5 custom fields. What would cause the registration process to take over 30 seconds? The submit button changes "processing" and hangs for a long time.

I do not have any other plugins currently active. The login form works at a normal speed.

Could you try disabling s2Member and then check to see if the registration form still hangs?

It seems the issue is in the server because it hangs with the regular WP registration. I increased the memory on the server, and even upgraded to Wordpress 3.3 and nothing works. I know this is not plugin related but if you have any tips that you could pass along, it would be appreciated.

It has to be something in the server because I just noticed another site on the server has the same issue. The registration form works great on my localhost. I am hosting on a Rackspace cloud server.

No worries, redarroweric. I suggest contacting your web host and explaining the problem. They should be able to take a look at it. WordPress is an extremely popular piece of software and web hosts are aware that it should work out-of-the-box. (In fact, an environment where WordPress works is usually a selling point for web hosts!)

My guess is the underlying database. Slow database connections can cause lag like this. On some Cloud Computing models, such as Rackspace Cloud Sites, the Apache processes are on the Cloud, but not the database. The database is a shared resource, and also resides on a different node. MediaTemple works around this issue by providing what's called a "Grid Container", giving you dedicated database resources. If you continue to have trouble with Rackspace, I would consider moving to MediaTemple (gs).

Ah, I had not thought of that. Rackspace is supposed to have great support, though, they should be able to help you, redarroweric.
