Talk about Free Subscribers and Marketing?

I've noticed that many people are offering free subscriptions at level "0" and I am wondering how that is working out and why you are doing it?

I assume you give people some free content so that they can see the benefit of your site and then you hope to upgrade them to a premium membership that pays?

Anyone care to discuss how you have been doing this and how well it works for you?
