Accidentally changed my admin status to subscriber

Postby francisgeo6 » December 27th, 2011, 4:01 pm

Hello,

I accidentally changed my role as Admin to Subscriber and now I cannot make any changes to my website. What can I do to fix this?

Thanks.

Do you have any other administrator accounts on your WordPress site? When you have only 1 Administrator, WordPress doesn't let you change the role of that last Administrator to anything else (specifically to prevent you from accidentally getting locked out).

Can I delete S2Member through my hosting accounts FTP Manager and then fix my "Role" and then download the S2 plugin again?

No.
This will be a core Wordpress issue.
You will probably need to go to your core database at your web host and alter the setting in there.
Do a search on the Wordpress forums...
Or see this link

Glad you solved it. By the way, how did you change your role in the first place? s2Member doesn't allow that. Did you use a plugin like User Role Editor?

Unfortunately, S2Member does allow it. And to admit to the world or just the people reading this forum, how stupid I am, I did it twice. I simply was in the All Users page and was changing my users from one role to a different one by clicking on the "select all" check box and I forgot my name was in the list... duh. So, after changing my role, and I received no warning, I was not able to change back or get into any Admin areas.

Thank you for the update.

I confirmed this issue. This appears to be a bug in WordPress itself, as you shouldn't be able to lock yourself like that. I've filed a bug report with the WordPress developers here: http://core.trac.wordpress.org/ticket/19684
