How to "approve" new members

Hello - is there a way to approve new members (especially free level 0), rather than having them be accepted automatically? If so, how? Thanks.

Secondary question - when I created a new membership for myself, I received an autoresponder email. It was supposed to tell me my user name, password, etc., but instead it showed the weird text %%user_name%% %%password%%, etc., that was supposed to be replaced w/my info. Why?

Thank you

In answer to question one.
One way to handle this is to have all subscribers subscribe to level zero.
Level zero access would only give theme access to a page that says their membership is under review and the auto email would explain this further.
Once you approve them, raise their membership manually to level one, where all your content etc is.

Re q two, maybe you need to double check your installation against the training videos to make sure you haven't missed a step during the installation and set up.

Hope that helps.

Check this couple of threads and try what's there.

You might wanna make sure that you're putting two percent signs (%%) on each side of the keyword. Also, are you using the keywords that you invented? Or are you using the keywords provided? Sorry for these questions, just want to clear that up.

Hope this helps. :)
Also remember to report back,
otherwise you leave me worrying. ;)

Thank you - question 2:
I am using the defaults that were already in the system - nothing that I have entered.
Here is exactly what was in the autoresponder text:

New User Registration on your site:
Koinonia Business Women

User ID: %user_id%
Username: %user_login%
Email: %user_email%
IP Address: %user_ip%

You might wanna make sure that you're putting two percent signs (%%) on each side of the keyword. So something like:
Koinonia Business Women

User ID: %%user_id%%
Username: %%user_login%%
Email: %%user_email%%
IP Address: %%user_ip%%

This was once a bug in s2Member, and some users were left with this bug in their installation. The bug was that the default email had only one percent sign on each side.

Hope this helps. :)

Okay - that is probably the problem with that then. Thank you!

As far as the other issue of being able to approve members before they're "in"...I've had bizarre spammer-types create memberships already and the site isn't even "live" yet (not on the main domain name, but a /blog area instead). Obviously, spammer members will only show up on the free level. I can't have them posting to forums, not even for a moment. Other levels require payment, so I don't want to hold those folks up either with status changes/approvals, etc.
That would be my only recommendation for s2member changes thus far - an approval process for the free level.

You will need to investigate options for anti spammer software because there are programs spamming sites all over the show. Look at si captcha and askimet.
Spammers and comment spammers are just a nightmare...
