s2Member update shuts down my website

I recently updated my Wordpress to version 3.1 and then got the notification from s2member to update from version 3.3.2 to 3.5.1. When I did the update, I was no longer able to login to my website. The wp-login page was absolutely blank as were all the pages that had any s2member code. I deleted the s2member directory and went back to version 3.3.2 and everything worked again.

I have the same problem on my site. I see the login screen just fine, yet after providing usr/pwd, all I get is a blank screen. I can't see any WP admin pages - nothing. I have to delete the plugin to make WP function again. Very frustrating, especially has I have not received any assistance from support after 3 attempts with detailed description of the problem and as a paying s2member pro user. What makes this worse is that my website is based on the s2clean theme and I can't even get my site online right now, because it requires the s2member plugin, which I can't install, because it renders my admin pages useless (blank pages)....see the trend?

Does anyone know where to get previous versions of s2member and pro that actually work?

Don't know where to get previous versions of Pro. I guess it'll be safe to start saving a backup of them before updating, just in case.

I just updated this afternoon and I'm getting the following error:

Fatal error: Cannot redeclare ws_plugin__s2member_activate() (previously declared in /home/sss/public_html/wp-content/plugins/s2member/includes/functions/activate-deactivate.inc.php:58) in /home/sss/public_html/wp-content/plugins/s2member/includes/functions/deprecated.inc.php on line 24

I'll go ahead and send this in to the support email (even though I've never, ever received a reply to my requests for help and I'm a paying client) and hope that Jason & crew are paying attention.

Did you update the plugin via WP Admin or manually via FTP? If the former, try the latter, including the Pro directory. Remember to make a backup before deleting, though, in case you want to go back.

I always update manually via FTP. Whenever I try to update automatically, I always get an error message.

I did backup my S2 files/folders before upgrading, so when the latest version didn't work, I just uploaded my backup and things are ok. I am still getting this error whenever I try to view the Users:

Warning: Invalid argument supplied for foreach() in /home/sss/public_html/wp-content/plugins/s2member/includes/functions/users-list.inc.php on line 90

This error appeared for me after upgrading to WP 3.1.

Anyone else getting this error?

I also ran into what appears to be a similar problem. After upgrading to 3.5.1 (via FTP), I could no longer access my admin area, and all I could obtain was a 500 server error.

The same problem persisted with subsequent install attempts.

After removing the s2 subdirectory, I rolled back to v3.3.2, and everything returned to normal.

I'm going to wait until the dust clears before attempting to reinstall the upgrade. I'm sure that there will be a revision or two.

Yeah, it's the error everyone was getting with WP 3.1 before updating s2Member to the latest release.

Ah ok, got it. I haven't had that problem with the update, so I'm just guessing what the problem could be.

What does the error log show after installing the latest s2Member release?

Regarding 500 internal server errors with s2Member v3.5.1, we've been unable to reproduce and/or track this down yet. Please follow me here ( viewtopic.php?f=4&t=2568#p7463 ) for updates on this topic. Also, if anyone has tried s2Member v3.5.2+ and is still seeing the 500 internal server error, please email support with a Dashboard login and we'll have a look for you.

Yes, this error was specifically related to a conflict between s2Member v3.3.2 and WordPress 3.1. An upgrade to s2Member v3.5.2+ is required to correct this bug. Some people are reporting 500 internal server errors with s2Member v3.5.2+, and we are still working to track this down. So far we've been unable to reproduce it, so I suspect it has something to do with a conflict in server configuration. An update will be released as soon as the problem is identified.

For anyone that is receiving the 500 internal server error, please send an email to support with a Dashboard login and FTP access ( if possible ). We need to see what is happening in your hosting environment, because we've been unable to reproduce it so far.

Thanks Jason for the addressing our concerns as fast as you possibly could!

One tip Jason gave me: after upgrading to S2 3.5.2 via FTP, I still was getting an error. Jason attributed it to an old file in the S2 folder. He told me to delete the S2 folder and the S2Pro folder and then reinstall the latest release. That did the trick and my site is error free now!
