Jason, et al, is there a way that I can get an email notification when there's a code upgrade available? For example a thread here that I can subscribe to?

I don't visit my client's dashboard every day to see the notices.

Yes, you can either go to this page:
viewforum.php?f=4
( scroll the very bottom and click subscribe )

Or subscribe to our feed via FeedBurner/email subscription:
