Login Welcome Page vs. Static WP Homepage

I am trying to set up custom landing pages for each member level using the redirection option under Login Welcome Page in s2member.
On my site, I am also using BuddyPress and using pages instead of posts, so I have a static homepage set in WP (Settings > Reading). This seems to be overriding the Login Welcome Page option in s2member.
When I turn off the static homepage, though, the theme doesn't pull in a blog post (I created a blank test post), it just shows two blank columns for widgets. I suspect settings may be off somewhere either in my theme (Community theme from BuddyDress) or WP setting (see attached for example of what I see when I try to force WP to display the latest post), but I am at a loss to figure out how to get the s2member login welcome page (which I will have redirect to the right page for each member level) to be the preference and displayed every time someone logs in.
Does anyone have a) a suggestion that might fix this, or b) an example you can share of how you use level-specific landing pages (and how you set it up)?
Thanks!
