Creating Paypal Button for a specific Purpose

Postby mohsintheone » May 24th, 2011, 7:51 am

Hello Cristián,

Hope that you would be fine, and you do remember me :)

Well I have a new question/matter and need your help:

We have a WORKSHOP page on our website.. And we want to add two new PAYPAL buttons for the users to pay and get registered for the upcoming workshop.. There will be two type of memberships for the workshop (i.e: $44 and $88)..

As I have told you earlier, that I don't have much idea regarding programming, but I can perform everything by reading and managing, as I did earlier with your help :)

I just want your help regarding : How to and where to generate those buttons?? There will be no membership restriction for this workshop registration (anyone can register).. If you help me to make one button, the other one won't be difficult then..

I want the following in "Your order summary":

Title/Description: Medicare for Midwives - lets get eligible workshop
Amount: $44 AUD

I hope that the everything I have mentioned above would make sense :) Please let me know, if you would require any further details..

Thanks & Looking Forward,

Mohsin

Hey Mohsin. :)

So you want to sell those, but not restrict access? Well, right now every sale will be tied to either a level or specific page restriction. You could sell these as specific pages, I guess. You can create the button for them from WP Admin -> s2Member -> PayPal Buttons -> PayPal Specific Post/Page (Buy Now) Buttons

Hello again Cristián,

I hope that you would be fine and sorry for keeping on taking your time :) Well the steps you told me, have not solved my problem yet.. Let me explain it to the point...

Here is the link of WORKSHOP PAGE: http://www.midwivesaustralia.com.au/?page_id=317

Just scroll down and you will see 2 BUY NOW buttons.. Well We already have those BUY NOW buttons on 2 or more pages (I have mentioned the link in very bottom of this page)... I just copied the HTML code from one of the page and pasted here.. Currently the BUY NOW buttons on WORKSHOPS page are not linked with anything.. Below is the code that I have copied:

Code: Select all
<h2>Medicare for Midwives – lets get eligible</h2>
<fieldset>
<h2>$44.00</h2>
<input alt="PayPal - The safer, easier way to pay online." name="submit" src="http://www.midwivesaustralia.com.au/wp-content/uploads/2011/01/buyNow.png" type="image" /> <img src="https://www.paypal.com/en_AU/i/scr/pixel.gif" border="0" alt="" width="1" height="1" /></fieldset>

Now I just want to link those BUY NOW buttons with the PAYPAL.. Hope that you understand my meaning this time.. Please help me to sort this thing out :)

For a reference, You can see one other page (RESOURCES), where I copied the above HTML code from : http://www.midwivesaustralia.com.au/?page_id=310

There was some more code inbetween <fieldset>.....</fieldset>... (You can see the complete code by VIEWING SOURCE CODE on this RESOURCES PAGE... And most probably that is the PAYPAL code what I am looking for.. So How can I generate that??

Thanks & Looking Forward..

Mohsin

Got ya.

You can generate new buttons with s2Member here WP Admin -> s2Member -> PayPal Buttons.

If you want to use button generated over at PayPal, for it to work with s2Member you'll need to follow the instructions Jason gives here viewtopic.php?f=36&t=309

Hello again Cristian,

Thanks for your continued support.. And I hope that you won't mind asking toooo many question :|

Well I saw the Instructions, Jason has given on the post: viewtopic.php?f=36&t=309 ... i think, for that , I will have to go to Paypal's website and generate the buttons??

Secondly: I have just generated 2 buttons from WP Admin -> s2Member -> PayPal Buttons -> Paypal Buttons For Level #1 Access.. I just copied and pasted the "WordPress® Shortcode: ( recommended for both the WordPress® Visual & HTML Editors )"...

You can see the above 2 buttons here: http://www.midwivesaustralia.com.au/?page_id=317

Have I done it right?? or have I chosen the wrong category : "Paypal Buttons For Level #1 Access" ??

Because, when I go and generate button from WP Admin -> s2Member -> PayPal Buttons -> PayPal Specific Post/Page (Buy Now) Buttons , It has first 2 options "Select a Leading Post/Page that you've protected" and "Package additional Post/Pages that you've protected" .. And I am unable to deal with them :)

If you think that the current buttons (which I have generated : http://www.midwivesaustralia.com.au/?page_id=317 ) will work for the purpose (for what I have created them).. Then i have just one last question:

How do I replace the current "PAYPAL checkout button" with the "Maroon BUY NOW button" that you can see here: http://www.midwivesaustralia.com.au/wp- ... buyNow.png

Thanks & Looking Forward,

Sorry,

If I have generated the new 2 buttons wrong (i.e: WP Admin -> s2Member -> PayPal Buttons -> Paypal Buttons For Level #1 Access).. and these buttons are not right for the purpose of What I have..

Then Please please guide me the exact steps, either to generate them through: WP Admin -> s2Member -> PayPal Buttons -> PayPal Specific Post/Page (Buy Now) Buttons or whatever you think would solve the issue...

Thanks for your cooperation,

Right, Level 1 buttons are not the right ones for Specific Post/Page transactions. This video may help you with the button creation http://www.s2member.com/specific-posts-pages-video/

About changing the button image, you can use the image attribute for the shortcode. It's explained here WP Admin -> s2Member -> PayPal Buttons -> Shortcode Attributes (Explained)

In your case it'd be image="http://www.midwivesaustralia.com.au/wp-content/uploads/2011/01/buyNow.png"

Hello Cristian,

I saw the movie you mentioned :) I hope that I have understood it may be 50/50...

Anyways, As much I have understood, I am explaining in the below steps:

1) I firstly make two separate POSTS (i.e: Post 1 for "$44 Membership" and Post 2 for "$88 Membership")..

2) Then I shall Place 2 individual BUY NOW buttons in POST 1 and POST 2 receptively...

3) Then I place two separate buttons (Get Registered Now) on Main Membership page (1 button with "$44 Membership" and 1 button with "$88 Membership"), and they would be linked to POST 1 and POST 2 separately.. So whoever (subscriber) Clicks on any button on the Main Membership page, He/She would be redirected to either POST 1 or POST 2.. And There He/She see the BUY NOW button... So now when they click on BUY NOW button, that will be specific PAGE/POST command..

I hope that I have explained the above steps well and you would understand them...

I am soon going to implement the above steps, and will show you also.. :)

Thanks again for your support & Looking Forward...

Quick Question...

By the way, Instead of making 2 posts, Why don't I make them 2 Pages??

Thanks

Here are the updates:

The Main Membership page : http://www.midwivesaustralia.com.au/?page_id=317
There you can see, I have placed two separate buttons (Get Registered Now) for both memberships... And both of those buttons are linked with separate pages (that I have just created).. You can see them by clicking on any of the button..

Now I will use the "IDs" of Newly created pages in the "PAYPAL Specific Post/Page Buy Now Buttons..

Am I going right now??

Thanks & Looking Forward,

You can't have the button to pay for a page, in the same page that's protected. You have to have the purchase button outside the protecte page you'll be selling. I'm not sure if that's what you were trying to do but, just in case, I wanted to make that clear.

When the page you plan to sell is ready, you add the ID to the s2Member -> General Options -> Specific Post/Page Restrictions panel and then create the button to sell it s2Member -> PayPal Buttons -> Specific Post/Page (Buy Now) Buttons, which you can have elsewhere in your website.

Ah..

My main point is here:

I am not selling any product or a page... I just want the people to PAY us through our website for the upcoming WORKSHOP.. The WORKSHOP is not an online workshop.. It will be at some venue (in real), where the people who PAY, will attend in personal..

Did you get my point??

Let me try to explain it exact to the point...

1) This is the main page, where we have placed the information for upcoming WORKSHOPS : http://www.midwivesaustralia.com.au/?page_id=317

2) When you scroll down, you will see two "Get Registered Now" buttons.. One is for $44 and the other is for $88..

3) Now I have created 2 more separate pages, for both of the above "Get Registered Now" buttons (with no restriction, means any one can see them).. one for $44 (ID=714) and one for $88 (ID=721)..

You can check those page(s) by clicking on any "Get Registered Now" button(s).

4) Now, I have added both IDs: 714 and 721 in the s2Member -> General Options -> Specific Post/Page Restrictions ... So these IDs will come in the Panel of "Button Code Specific Posts/Pages" in s2Member -> PayPal Buttons -> Specific Post/Page (Buy Now) Buttons and I would be able to generate the buttons..

I am doing it right or not? :)

Sincerely,

Mohsin

Got it, but you will have to protect a page to be sold with the specific post/page button, even if you just say "thank you" there.

What I was trying to say is that you shouldn't protect the page where you want to have the button to sell it.

I hope that makes sense. :)

Edit: saw your new post.

The "Get Registered Now" will be the buttons to sell pages 714 and 721? Then it seems fine.

:)

I have created one totally separate POST "Thank You" (ID=730) that will work as: "Leading POST/PAGE that you've protected"...

Update: I have just generated a button for ($44 Membership, ID=714)... You can see it at: http://www.midwivesaustralia.com.au/?page_id=714

The code for the button you see "PAY NOW" is : [s2Member-PayPal-Button ids="730,714" exp="43800" desc="Medicare for Midwives (lets get eligible)" ps="paypal" cc="AUD" ns="1" custom="www.midwivesaustralia.com.au" ra="44" sp="1" image="default" output="button" /]

I hope that I have been on the right track

Hello again.

Here : http://www.midwivesaustralia.com.au/?page_id=317

You can check both the pages by clicking on any "Get Registered Now" button(s) in the above link.. (Also if both of them gets open by you, that means that they are not under any restriction of a S2member level).

I will also ask one of our admin person to test by PAYING from PAYPAL, for any particular membership.. So we will get to know that; which page they would be redirected to, once they have paid..

I hope, once they PAY (either $44 or $88), they would be redirected to: http://www.midwivesaustralia.com.au/?p=730 (Leading POST/PAGE that you've protected)

I hope that whatever I have done now is what I was looking for?

As always, I really appreciate your continuous assistance!

Thanks,

Both buttons took me to a page with the payment button. The second link gave a 404, though.

You're almost there. :)

Re: Creating Paypal Button for a specific Purpose

Postby mohsintheone » May 29th, 2011, 9:45 pm

Here, I have re-done the whole process:

1) I created a NEW page, title "Thank You".. It's ID=755..

2) I entered the ID=755 in to s2Member -> General Options -> Specific Post/Page Restrictions

3) Next, I opened s2Member -> PayPal Buttons -> Specific Post/Page (Buy Now) Buttons and here I made two separate buttons from the ID=755, one each for ($44 and $88)..

4) Then I placed the "Generated Button Codes" on their respective buttons..
http://www.midwivesaustralia.com.au/?page_id=714
http://www.midwivesaustralia.com.au/?page_id=721

These both IDs 714 and 721 are now, not under any restriction... (Indeed, I think this was what I was doing wrong... I earlier added both of these IDs into s2Member -> General Options -> Specific Post/Page Restrictions ... Means these two were also restricted)..

5) Right now I have only restricted the "Thank You" page ID=755...

I hope that this time I have done everything correctly :) I just feel like it !

Thanks & Looking Forward,

Hello again Cristian,

Hope that you would be fine and things are going well..

I just have a small quick question:

"How do I edit/change the e-mail message and subject, that a new user gets, whenever he/she register on our website"... Currently the following auto message/e-mail is sent to the users:

Subject: [midwives australia] Your username and password

Username: testing
Password: testing
http://www.midwivesaustralia.com.au/wp-login.php

I would like to edit the Message Text.. I hope that this would be an easy task :)

Thanks & Looking Forward...
