seeking professional help w/ s2Member

Postby joehark » October 9th, 2010, 4:01 am

I've looked around for this board's TOS and can't find one. So I can only apologize if this question violates the TOS.

I need to hire someone familiar with configuring s2members for what I estimate is only about 15 minutes of work for someone who knows what they are doing. I've posted in another thread in these forums that new member emails are not being sent out, even though PayPal sends a receipt and the user's name is then found in the Dashboard.

I have too much on my plate right now (getting married next week, other deadlines, etc.) to figure out why and then reconfiguring whatever is wrong.

if you have that expertise, send me an email (harkins.joe@gmail.com) and we'll talk.

Thanks

I don't know what else to do. My project is stuck on this single point. Today is my deadline and I have no solution for this problem. I sure hope someone can help me.

update - the membership director is getting an email notice of the new member and of the payment. The member is sent from PayPal back to the registration form and completes the form. The member sees the promise of an email containing the user name and pw. The member appears in the list of users.

PayPal is complete. As far as I can see, there is no issue with PayPal.

The sole remaining item is that email. So although I suspect the configuration is missing one simple thing somewhere in s2M, I can't figure out what that is or how to fix it.

Hi Joe. Thanks for your inquiry.

The feature that you're describing " new user notifications ", is already built into WordPress®, and is not something that is affected one way or the other by having s2Member installed. Whenever a new User/Member registers, WordPress® will send them an email with their Username/Password, and the site owner is also notified.

If this is not working as expected, I suspect it has something to do with your WordPress® configuration, or possibly in your server configuration with respect to the mail() function that is utilized within PHP scripts. Another possibility is a plugin conflict. If you have another plugin installed along with s2Member that is creating a change in the way WordPress® uses this function "wp_new_user_notification()", it could also cause a problem for you.

Possible solutions:

De-activate other plugins until this feature starts to work as expected.
This will help you find the culprit.

Contact your hosting provider and ask them to verify that PHP's mail() function is operable on your server. Either that, or use the following test script to verify that your server can send email. Load this file onto your server and open it in a web browser. Be sure to change the $to address to your email.
Code: Select all
<?php
$to
= "you@example.com";
mail($to, "Test Email", "Test Email", "From: " . $to . "\r\nContent-Type: text/plain");
?>
You should get a test email message verifying that your server is capable of sending email.

Hi Jason,

and what if we are using SMTP to send out mails?
PHP's mail() never worked on my server and there's no way 2 get it working for more than one domain which is stupid, but that is the situation. So I had to install a SMTP plugin, which worlkd out wonderfully. Only obviously not with s2 member!

How to I get the user to receive his mail?
It's a horrible situation, as they pay with PPal and get NO information whatsoever as of how/where they can register!

Could you please paste some hack or smth. to get it to work?

Thanks!

Thanks for reporting this important issue.

This thread has become a little outdated now. The latest versions of s2Member are compatible with the wp_mail() function, and you shouldn't have problems running the SMTP mail plugin for WordPress either. If you are though, please let me know the specifics related to the trouble you've have and I'll have a look for you. See: http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/wp-mail-smtp/

Please make sure that you test against s2Member v111011+.
