Quick Cache Plugin caused white screen of death - how to fix

Postby victortaylor » October 10th, 2011, 6:57 pm

I installed the plugin because I think it was s2member that was slowing the site down.

After activating the plugin I have a WSOD on the front end and in admin...

Because i can't deactivate it in admin I deleted the plugin folder from the server but still have the WSOD everywhere...

How can I fix this please? Thank you.

That was SCARY. There should be a health warning about these things...

I'm in the middle of restoring the site gradually activating plugins again after finding out the problem.

The plugin puts some files in the wp-content directory too, which needed to be deleted.

I renamed plugins directory - then was able to access admin - then removed the cache plugin files - then have started re-activating plugins in the right order i.e. buddypress and it's theme, the s2member and the rest.

Nightmare.

Yeah, I experienced this too. Very odd. Abandoned the plugin only to return and try it again. Seem to work at first, but then I entered a URI exclusion with a very unique pattern. No go. Tried resetting Quick Cache and it just won't take. Caching is now dead. :-(

I think Quick Cache is running, it appears that only IE and Chrome show the comments after the closing html tag. Perhaps Safari and Firefox are pruning it?

I'm going to use WP Total Cache when I get around to it, which works good on another site...

Funny thing is, my site downloads a lot quicker now... Must have been another plugin because I haven't re-activated all of them...

I'm having the same problem here. When I look at the source file I can see that the <head> doesn't finish loading, which means that the code never reaches the <body>.

The Quick Cache debug info is at the bottom as if everything is normal.

Is there a fix for this?

I think, perhaps one has to reset permalinks? I'm not sure. I had to remove the plugin, and the corresponding drop-in. Trying a second time and it took. I'm quite happy with it now. It appears to we working well and pages do render a bit faster.

At first I had the cache set to clear after one week, but after I changed the setting back to the default (3600?) the problem "appeared" to have gone away. I'm still leery, but QuickCache brought my page load time down to 4 seconds from 35 seconds, so I'm just hoping the problem won't come back.
