Does auto caching ever stop?

I use WP as cms rather than blogging platform so all pages are pretty much not dynamic and for that I set expiration time to 60 days with 2000 posts and auto caching set to on with 1 page every 5 minutes.

Does auto caching stop after cashing all pages or it works 24/7/365?

Does the auto caching engine keep track of expiration time per page so that it doesn't attempt to visit the page until the expiration time has passed?
