MultiSite Implementation

Postby crazycoolcam » September 28th, 2011, 6:55 am

Hi Guys,
My goal is to use S2Member to manage a content delivery membership site where a variety of pre-created 'blogs' are dripped to the users who have signed up. On each of these blogs/lessons, custom-capabilities would need to be shared in some way with the central user db so that if a user reaches blog/lesson three and decides that they want access to the courses 'videos' or 'extended lessons' these features will then be unlocked for the whole course and not just for that single blog.

Currently I have two courses (one that will be 30 blogs and the other that will be 200 blogs). Each blog will have about 10 pages. The idea behind using blogs and not simply an elaborate nesting of pages is both a quantity issue (I'll have at least 2300 pages total) and a menu logic issue (since each lesson should be easy to navigate through itself). Also there is the database size issue, since my host pressed me to use a database distribution plugin to minimize the size of my database.

(The fallback option is switching hosts, and using an elaborate nesting of pages with a crazy menu-logic that would probably negatively affect the site's performance.)

I am currently using WP 3.2.1 in Multisite Mode, BP 1.5, and S2Member v.110927

I don't think this is possible with S2member yet (based on my research in the forms). I am not trying to run a blog-farm where users can create their own membership sites, but I am trying to utilize a network of blogs to deliver my content.

So my questions are:
-- How soon will this type of feature-set be enabled?
-- Is there a way of coding around this issue and forcing S2 Member to check for custom capabilities and membership levels from the global user-base rather than the individual sites user base?
-- Do I have any options available to accomplish this goal without increasing the complexity of this already massive project?

Thanks in advance for your help.

P.S. I am also watching this post because it is also similar to some of what I am looking for: http://www.primothemes.com/forums/viewtopic.php?f=4&t=15338&sid=03e61666c7ee743955c289486b60c483#p41825

Sorry, s2Member doesn't do that.

You would need to figure out how to share the userbase between the blogs, there may be info on that already, try Google. If you do that, then maybe the s2Member permissions will work accross the blogs.

You probably have a developer in your team already, but if you don't and need one, you could try here: viewforum.php?f=37

I hope that helps. :)

Thanks, and I'll look over in the custom coding section and may post something.
