Mutlisite Registration Configuration

Postby pwidder » April 15th, 2011, 5:13 am

I have s2member installed on a multisite.
I will offer admin access to 1 blog for each new member, but will be manually creating that blog for them, only giving access to limited dashboard functions after I do.
I will not be providing the option to have membership capabilities available to these sites.

I assume I have to activate the multisite patches ( that is correct, yes?) but am wondering about the Registration Configuration?

In the above case do I need to use/wp-signup.php
or can I stick with Standard Login/Registration Form

In reference to:
Multisite Networking also makes a new Registration Form available ( driven by your theme ); which we refer to as ( /wp-signup.php ). If; and only if, you're planning to offer Blogs, you MUST use /wp-signup.php, instead of using the Standard Login/Registration Form. In a Multisite installation, we refer to the Standard Login/Registration Form, as ( /wp-login.php?action=register ). If you're planning to offer Membership Access only, and NOT Blogs, you can simply use the Standard Login/Registration Form, which is easily customized through s2Member -> General Options -> Login/Registration Design on your Main Site.

And
If I decide to:
Offer membership on any other of MY sites in the future within this mutltisite do I need to change the configuration. Now? Then or can I use Standard login then as well as now .
and
if I offer the ability for members to create additional blogs in the future ( not including membership creation on those blogs) do I have to change the configuaration now to allow that in the future, will I then (when I make additional blogs available) or do I at all.

Thanks for your patience with all my questions. I would like to get it right the first time.

Is there a reason I am not receiving an answer to this question?
If so I would like to correct it.

Hi pwidder. :)

You posted your question on Friday and I saw it on Saturday. The one that knows multisite best is Jason, the Lead Developer, so I emailed him about your question, but he wasn't around during the weekend. Today is monday and he usually logs in later in the day.

I'm very sorry you didn't get a fast reply as others do, but I wouldn't help you with an answer I'm guessing.

In this case, you would activate s2Member ONLY on your Main Site, and do NOT activate it Network Wide. You'll want to configure s2Member for "Membership Access Only" under: s2Member -> Multisite (Config). This way each Member of your Main Site will ONLY have a Membership, and not have the ability to create Blogs. However, you will still have the ability to create Blogs manually if you like.
I assume I have to activate the multisite patches ( that is correct, yes?) but am wondering about the Registration Configuration?

Yes, that is always the case. No exceptions. If you're running s2Member on a Multisite Network, you absolutely MUST run the automatic patches under: s2Member -> Multisite (Config).

You can stick with the Standard Login/Registration Form.

The only change in the future, for you, would be that you'd need to activate s2Member Network Wide instead of only on the Main Site. No changes to your Multisite (Config) though.
