Password field issue

Postby IM Queen » May 28th, 2011, 12:55 am

Hi,
I have been using S2Memeber free version for a while now and it has been working fine. I have a custom registration page with custom fields added using S2Member. However. for the last 4-5 days, users are not able to register to my site - They are getting an error saying 'Enter Password' but they can't see and 'password' field during registration.
Some people see the 'Password' and 'Confirm Password' field but I have set the custom password option to 'No'. I am not sure why it is showing up for some and why others, who don't see this field, are not able to register

Could you please tell us the WordPress, s2Member and s2Member Pro (if you have it) versions you have installed?

Do you have screenshots of this problem?

Did you change anything when the problem started happening? E.g. added a new plugin, updated something.

Ok.
Wordpress: 3.0.3
S2Member: 3.5.8

I did some digging and found out few things..
When users go to default wordpress login, they get the 'Enter Password' error as seen from first attachment

But when they go to the my custom themed login page, they see the additional 'password' field which I think is the cause for the error above. This is seen in second screenshot.

I want to know of a way to eliminate the additional 'password' field... I have set custom password option to 'No' in S2Memebr options...

Thanks a lot for replying!! :)

Cheers!

I understand. Hmm... Why are you using an older WordPress version?

s2Member has the Allow Custom Passwords during Registration option, which you say you set to "no". Does the password field still show in the standard registration page at wp-login.php?action=regiter?

How did you create the custom registration form?

using older Wordpress version just to make sure that all my plugins work properly.. At times I have seen plugins not working as intended when I have the latest Wordpress version.

in the standard registration page, the password field doesn't show up as seen from the second screen shot. This results in the error because the form is expecting password for some reason.

I created the custom form using 'Theme my login' plugin which basically applies css to the register page I guess :)

Thanks again for prompt responses!! i will be more than glad if this is fixed somehow..

So you created a custom registration form with Theme My Login which has the password fields, and you don't want the password fields in the registration form but don't know how to get them out, and you have s2Member's Allow Custom Passwords during Registration set to "no" (which seems to affect the standard form but not the custom one). Is that correct?

Do you have s2Member Pro?

close to correct but no.... s2Member's Allow Custom Passwords during Registration if set to 'yes' adds a password field right after email field in both standard form and custom form and when set to 'no' removes that password field from both standard and custom form. That's not the issue..

Issue is with the additional 'password' and 'confirm password' fields at the end of the form as highlighted in the screenshot. These 2 fields appear in the custom form irrespective of my settings and don't appear in standard form irrespective of the settings :( I have no idea why these two fields are showing up...

I hope I am not confusing you too much. :( and no, I don't have S2Member Pro. I am using the free one...

just to be clear, the custom fields(such as company name, address) were all created using S2Member's custom registration field option.... 'Theme my login' was just used to create a new url for registration form which will have the form 'themed' to match my site's theme and not for creating custom fields..

****!!!! I figured it out.. 'Theme my login' had a 'custom password' module enabled which was clashing with other settings.. DUH!

I am so sorry for taking up your time and energy on a non-issue :(

Thanks for reporting back! I'm very glad you sorted it out. :)

And thanks for letting me know about that password setting Theme My Login has, I'll keep it in mind if someone else mentions this problem in the future.
