Open Registration creates susbscriber, not s2member

Postby Guest » August 9th, 2010, 9:03 pm

I need open registration so users can post on the forums, but I also need premium (level 2 members). I have Open Registration set to on, but when a user signs up they are given the role of Subscriber, not s2Member Level 0. And when I try and Sign up for a Level 2 under that account, the role never changes off Subscriber. Am I doing something wrong?

Thanks for the help and the great plugin.

Got some more info..

When I register for a free account, it sends me the password fine and assigns me to Subscriber.

If I sign up for a membership while logged in with a free account, I can pay, but I never get an email to confirm it. What would be the reason for users not getting their confirmation email?

Thanks!

I guess the confirmation email is for users that don't have an account yet, whoops.

Still lost why the members role wont update after paying for a subscription.

Sorry for all the replies!

I was confused before that last reply, ignore all that. I still haven't figured out why the users role doesn't get updated after the pay using the level modifier. If anyone could help I would greatly appreciate it, I need to get this figured out asap. Sorry for the bump.

Hi there. Very sorry for the delayed response.
Thanks for reporting this.

I'm not aware of any conflict in the the registration routines that would cause this. It sounds like it could be a cookie issue. What browser are you testing with, and does it have any special plugins installed that would completely block all trusted cookies?

Hi,
I am suffering from the same problem, the system goes through the process of taking payment, the pop up comes up to say "Check Email" but the email is never received and the subscriber is not added.

Any Suggestions?
Thanks

I have the same problem. I just recently got a bunch of new paid members - it seems that about half of them are having problems with password management. One of them (with excellent eyesight, I guess) saw a comment flash by about cookies, so she turned cookies on and all was well. So now that is my standard response when I see a copy of the email about a user changing her password.

This is really frustrating, because it means that I have to be on top of my email to notice this anomaly.

In my former life (before retirement), I was an computer systems architect - one of our standards was to NOT assume that the end user had cookies turned on!
