So I managed to exclude non-members by putting all in the categories section, page section etc for level 1.

Now however, there is no content on the first page.....

and I get an error 404. Any suggestions?

Check your other thread where I replied about the content restriction problem, let me know if that solves the problem you mention here with the home page.

By the way, did you set a static page or the latest posts for it? WP Admin -> Settings -> Reading -> Front page displays

What did you set as your Membership Options Page and Login Welcome Page? WP Admin -> Settings -> General Options
