Where is the Log In?

Postby drcoach » May 23rd, 2010, 11:00 am

Hi, I guess I'm completely stupid, but I have installed wpmu, buddypress, bbpress and s2member and am slowly making my way around getting them to work together. I have set up my membership options page and protected the rest of the site. However, what I'm not figuring out is where does an existing member log in? There seems to be no place for this.

I disabled the buddypress bar from view for non-members because it was allowing non-members to navigate to protected pages but now there is nowhere to log in. Can you clarify how this is supposed to work? Thanks so much! you can see my site in progress at http://www.nunomad.com/tribe

Thanks I'll go try that now,

Just tried it and it works great. Do you happen to know how to edit it? I don't want the RSS and Wordpress link on there

I ended up using the Custom Meta Widget instead and it allowed more customization. Now all is good

I had this same question and am now wondering, apart from these widgets and plug-ins, where is the login?

I have a friend testing my site for me, and tho' she is a member, she just keeps getting the "membership options page", rather than login.

Thanks so much!

Oh. : )

What I meant is where should it show up in the flow on the site? Am I right that s2member doesn't seem to recognize a member and give them the login page automatically?

If that is so, I see from my reading that you can put a sidebar widget login, but I wonder if that is our only option? I would rather just have a little link to the page that works on any page (not all of mine, including the front page, have a sidebar).

Thanks!

You can place a link on your Membership Options Page if you like:

Thank you, I know that is a possibility...I just didn't want my already subscribed members to keep getting that page that is meant to get people to subscribe in the first place. Do you know what I mean?

During the setup process, I created a pretty login page, but I am still not seeing (nor is my tester) where that page actually comes into play. I think I have seen a discussion somewhere here about that....how s2member seems to always redirect to the MOP, when a login would be much more appropriate for those already subscribed.

Thanks for the follow-up.
I'm sorry. OK, so just to confirm, you're talking about the Login Welcome Page you configured with s2Member, is that right? When a user User logs in, they are automatically redirected to your Login Welcome Page, but you're saying that's NOT the case on your installation?

Please post a screenshot that shows your option configuration for the Login Welcome Page in s2Member. Maybe that will help us troubleshoot this for you. Thanks!

You know, it isn't the Login Welcome Page (which I created as a generic page during setup but haven't put anything there yet). What I am talking about is the Login/Registration page that you configure in General Options under Login/Registration Design. The resulting page is the one found at the /wp-login.php address you mentioned before (well Cristian Lavaque did-sorry, I don't know how to do accent marks!).
Mine is here:

Doesn't it make sense that already subscribed folks should have an easy way to login, should they become logged out?

Thank you. No, s2Member only redirects unauthenticated requests to your Membership Options Page. On that page, you can supply a link to log into the site ( i.e. existing Members, please log in ).

Some site owners prefer to use "Conditionals" discussed in your Dashboard, under: s2Member -> API Scripting; and some site owners prefer to use a login widget, which automatically detects the current login status of the User/Member. In the case of the s2Member Pro Login widget, it is also possible to embed the widget into your theme, if you prefer.

These two articles may assist you:
