Buy Now options.

Postby Richard Pickett » September 27th, 2010, 2:07 pm

It looks like what I want to use is the "buy now" so individual pages can be purchased. I've setup buy now buttons in paypal before, so no big deal there.

I have two concerns:

1. I don't like putting the fields to a buy now in the form itself, I like paypal to host the button - that way people don't just free-hand-edit my form and give themselves a nice discount. Can I just generate the button and then hand copy/paste the fields myself? Or am I really worrying too much about the security of the hand-edit?

2. I have some sales pages that are *not* wordpress. I'd like to put the buttons on these other pages. Does some special requirements of s2member require that these buttons be (a) on the wordpress page they are for or (b) on the wordpress site itself? Any problems with me generating the buttons and then putting them on other non-wordpress pages?

Thanks!

I thought of two more questions.

3. How does s2member remember the people who have made a single-page purchase if it's not associated with an account? I'd like that person to be able to come back "forever" and always have access to that page.

4. How hard would it be to tie it to an account? If they don't have an account, does the ipn data have the email (I'm thinking "yes"), they could be granted an account immediately and sent login details and link to page.

Thanks again!

I have the exact same question. I am developing a flash applet to handle the purchasing of my products and want to use the link from paypal's site.

I figured out the answers on my own - I've found that the "support" on this forum is pretty non-existent. You have to send in an email using the contact form and "hope" they decide to answer....

1. Generate the buy now button in s2member, examine the <input> fields that are generated and create your paypal button in paypal using those same values, some of them have to go in the additional name/value edit box in paypal's buy-now button options.

2. yes, generate the button, it will work, the s2member code doesn't do anything special like record your click then send you to paypal.

3. make the button for 5 years, you'll notice one of the values is the length of time *in hours*. Use another value if needed - I don't know what it does in the email it sends, maybe it doesn't display the amount of time correctly (that's what I'd guess).

4. not finding an easy way to do that... The code has a little documentation but wasn't written for anyone to maintain it but the original programmer. Also, moding the code would break when you upgrade....
