Correct way to set up this product?

Postby pfriedl » September 10th, 2011, 6:41 pm

Ok, so I have a product on Clickbank that I'm setting up like so:

It's a recurring product with an initial charge of $4.95 and a second monthly charge of $92.05.
No Trial period
Frequency: Monthly
Duration: 2 (so the initial charge and one charge of $92.05).

Now, in S2, I'm setting up the buy button like this:
Recurring, No Trial, Rebill Monthly.

Now, I'd like to make sure that the membership is a lifetime membership - will this happen, or does the membership expire? Or I guess what I'm asking is what settings do I need to ensure that they'll get charged the $4.95 up front, then the $92.05 in 30 days and maintain a lifetime membership?

Thanks for the help!

Yes as long as they keep paying it. If you want to make it free you'll have to set up a very long (or maybe there's the lifetime option).

I don't know if this might help, but how about setting up a Lifetime Membership(it's the last option on the drop down list) and making the first payment a trial that lasts for 1 month? If I understand your question correctly, this is what you are trying to accomplish?

Thanks for the input. That's what I was wondering about - the product only has a two payment lifespan - the initial payment and the remainder in 30 days. That typically generates much higher conversion rates.

So once the payment is done, does S2 automatically kill the account, and if so, would I need to use some kind of custom capability or other setting to ensure they get lifetime membership?

You can have an initial amount and then the regular amount in your button, as well as deactivating the EOT behavior so they aren't demoted. The problem with that would be that those who don't make the 2nd payment won't have the access removed either.

I'll ask Jason what can be done about this.

Thanks for the heads up Cristián.

This is a good point. There's not a way to accomplish this without completely disabling s2Membe'r's EOT system. There is an rrt Attribute available ( see below ), but you would still need to disable s2Member's EOT system in this scenario to achieve what you need. I'll see what we can do about this in a future release. Perhaps a new Shortcode Attribute that allows for lifetime access on recurring charges, whereby EOT is disabled in certain scenarios only, and only if directed to do so by the configuration of the Button.

Dashboard -> s2Member -> PayPal Buttons -> Shortcode Attributes
Please take a look at Shortcode Attribute rrt="".
rrt="" Regular Recurring Times ( i.e. a fixed number of installments ). Only valid w/ Membership Level Access. When unspecified, any recurring charges will remain ongoing until cancelled, or until payments start failing. If this is set to 1 or higher the regular recurring charges will only continue for X billing cycles, depending on what you specify. This is only valid when rr="1" for recurring "Subscriptions".

Please note that a fixed number of installments, also means a fixed period of access. If a Customer's billing is monthly, and you set rrt="3", billing will continue for only 3 monthly installments. After that, billing would stop, and their access to the site would be revoked as well ( based on your EOT Behavior setting under:
s2Member -> PayPal® Options ).

So if I understand you correctly, the customer will pay the initial $4.95, then in a month get the $92.05 charge. BUT - in 30 days, their membership "expires"?

ClickBank probably won't send an instant notification that the payments are done will it? So that would mean that S2 would assume that it's over since there were just two payments made.

Would it be better to set up a recurring product with a trial price?

Oh, I'm so sorry. The rrt="" Shortcode Attribute is only valid for PayPal.

There are quite a few options available with ClickBank too though. They have what is equivalent to the rrt="" Attribute as well ( i.e. a fixed duration ) is possible with ClickBank too. However, just as with PayPal, when the fixed number of installments are over, ClickBank WILL send s2Member an EOT response, and access will be terminated at that time by s2Member.

If you want access to remain ongoing, you'll have to disable s2Member's EOT System. Either that, or you would need to configure your Recurring Product at ClickBank as ongoing ( i.e. with unlimited payments ).

Jason,
Thanks for the info. I was thinking that this would be the case. It looks like that until the next release, I'll just have to disable EOT. Do you know if this will be an option in the next release?
