Users being incorrectly redirected & no password prompt

Postby scisport » September 19th, 2011, 10:34 am

Hopefully we're running down the last few installation and starting issues. Got these from a beta tester.

"I was initially blocked from logging in, because, out of habit from a million other sites, I entered my username and regular password. The I realized I hadn't established that password yet on this site, just logged in with the assigned password the first time, which is a long way of saying I wish you would prompt me at some point to change my password to something I'll actually remember. I had to go find the other password in the email system to get in."

- I have searched and for the moment cannot find the text setting or other setting to insure people are told to change their assigned password.

"When I tried to edit my profile, I was redirected to the head honcho message"

- This is the basic welcome message I want people to see when they are logged in. This is something we will update to bring them news on what we're doing, special offers, etc. The question here then is two-fold:
1. How do I correct hi issue and insure he's being sent to that intro message?
2. If I chose to do so, what and where is the setting merely taking them directly to the home page and bypassing that message?

The forum support here is really outstanding, and I thank you all again for the assist. Ed.

OK, rewatched the videos and here is perhaps the place to start. On the tutorial video, it takes me to "Member Profile Modifications". The video shows 3 Code Samples from which to choose. Note the attached page (S2 screen 2) and it is somewhat different. As instructed, I took the IFrame code and placed it in the bottom of the Welcome page. Saved it. Went back to check. There was no button or anything, just the code ((S2 screen 2 page attached). I realize I must have done something wrong in the insert, so therein lies my first dilemma. I take it proper installation of this would solve the issue.

Before I forget, once that is inserted properly, I take it that will take the user to a profile "fill out" page. Will I be able to see and edit this page or is it automatically created? And how would I access it?

The misdirection issue is one I'm still working on.

OK, the wheel continues to spin. Got it. Realized it had to be inserted into the HTML page and not the visual side. You may want to include this in the next tutorial. NOW the question is the words "Modify Profile" are very small at the bottom of the page. How would I make those larger/more prominent?

Back to work on the misdirection. At this rate I'll be there around Xmas.

Let me try this one on for size. Now that I have that page created, will this then solve the misdirection?

- Still need to figure out how to make that bigger at the bottom of the page.
- I take it all that info is automatic and is saved under the username for their future use?
- Is there another button to direct them toward changing any of their profile information? That seems to be missing somewhere.
- When I log onto the page from my home system, I am automatically redirected to my Word Press page. I take it that's a cookies issue and is doing so because I am the Admin?

What misdirection problem? After you login? Have you watched this video? http://www.s2member.com/login-welcome-p ... cts-video/

The "Modify Profile" link? You'd do that with CSS.

scisport wrote:- I take it all that info is automatic and is saved under the username for their future use?

Yes, that modifies the user's profile and when saved, gets saved just like when editing the profile from the standard profile page.

You mean in the navigation? There usually is a link for that somewhere but, if not, you could add it yourself.

What do you mean by "my home system" and "my Word Press page"? I'm a bit confused with that. Could you explain? Thanks!
